Features
Size & Capacity
The XD Mod.3 OSP is easy to conceal, featuring a compact frame without sacrificing capacity. At 27 ounces, it’s heavier than a micro-compact but remains comfortable for all-day carry. The pistol stands 5.5 inches in height and spans 7.3 inches in length, giving it a nice balance of size and handling ease. It’s only 1.2 inches wide with a barrel length of 4 inches, making it easy to conceal in most carry positions.
When it comes to magazine capacity, Springfield gives you two options: a standard 16-round magazine or a state-compliant 10-round capacity.
Frame & Grip
The XD Mod.3’s frame is thoughtfully designed for comfort and control, offering a secure grip with an aggressive texture for a better purchase.
Like the others in the XD series, the Mod.3 has a black polymer frame. Unlike the original, however, the Mod.3 has significant texturing strategically placed on specific contact points for enhanced control. It also features an undercut trigger guard and extended beavertail, allowing for a high hand grip on the firearm. Additionally, it has reshaped thumb rests on either side for a more comfortable, natural grip.
The XD Mod.3 has an accessory rail molded into the frame’s dustcover with an extra slot, making it easy to mount different types of accessories with more precision.
Trigger
The Springfield Armory XD Mod.3 OSP has a completely redesigned trigger. While the original XD comes with a standard curved trigger, the Mod.3 features a more modern flat-faced trigger that offers a clean break and a consistent pull.
Slide & Barrel
The Mod.3 OSP’s slide and barrel are both made out of hammer-forged steel with a Melonite finish. The slide features front and rear serrations, which have been redesigned from the original to offer a better grip in any condition.
Sights & Optics
As you may have gleaned from the name, the Mod.3 OSP comes optics-ready out of the factory, making it easy to mount a wide variety of red dot sights. The slide is also milled to allow you to use Springfield’s OSP mounting plate system if you desire.
If you’re not looking to mount optics, the Mod.3 also comes with a set of durable, high-visibility steel sights. The front sight has a bright red fiber optic rod while the rear sight features two white sights – a combination that makes target acquisition quick and easy.
Safety
Although it’s not available with a manual thumb safety, the Springfield XD Mod.3 comes with a variety of safety features, including a passive grip safety that is only disengaged with a proper shooting grip. In addition to that, the Mod.3 has a tactile loaded chamber indicator and a striker-status indicator for added security.
About Springfield Armory
Springfield Armory traces its roots back to 1794 when the original Springfield Armory began manufacturing muskets for the U.S. military in Springfield, Massachusetts. For nearly two centuries, the Armory was a leading supplier of firearms for American troops, producing guns used in every major military conflict from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War. The original Armory was closed in 1968.
In 1974, Springfield Armory Inc. was established in Geneseo, Illinois to revive the legacy and branding of the historic Armory. Though not directly related to the original company, Springfield Armory Inc. has become one of the largest American firearms manufacturers, producing popular handguns like the 1911-style XD pistol and Hellcat micro-compact.
They also manufacture modern sporting rifles like the Saint and Hellion series built on the AR-15 platform. After nearly 230 years, the Springfield Armory name continues its long legacy as an iconic American gun maker.
The Bottom Line
With the XD Mod.3 OSP, Springfield Armory has packed a lot of value into a compact, easy-to-conceal package. Between its solid capacity, comfortable ergonomics, and optics-ready slide, this pistol seems to hit all the marks for today’s concealed carriers.
