On Target: Vedder Nation’s November Industry News Rundown

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s hard to keep up with all the latest developments in firearms and tactical gear. With new products launching all the time and major shifts happening in the industry, staying ahead of the curve is tough.

That’s where we come in. Every month, we bring you a quick overview of the top updates on new releases, gear, and industry news so you never miss out on the action.

This November, we’re covering multiple self-defense shootings, the introduction of a couple of new pistols from Kimber and Taurus, and the federal court’s decision on an Illinois “assault weapon” ban.

Kimber Releases New 2K11 Double-stack 1911

Kimber's new 2k11 double-stack 1911 handgun

Kimber has introduced the 2K11, a double-stack 2011 pistol designed to offer enhanced capacity and performance while staying true to the company's high-quality standards. Chambered in 9mm or .45 ACP, this model combines the classic 1911 platform with modern upgrades for competitive shooters and concealed carriers alike.

The 2K11 features a 5-inch barrel, a stainless steel frame, and a double-stack 13-round magazine. Additional highlights include a 3.5-pound trigger, ambidextrous safety, fiber-optic front sight, and a tactical rail for accessories. This pistol is designed for accuracy and reliability, making it an appealing option for both defense and sport shooting enthusiasts.

Key specifications for the Kimber 2K11 include:

  • Caliber: 9mm or .45 ACP
  • Capacity: 13
  • Barrel Length: 5”
  • Overall Length: 8.56”
  • Width: 1.4”
  • Height: 5.74”
  • Weight: 40.1 oz
  • MSRP: $2,125

Kimber’s latest release aims to compete with other high-performance double-stack 2011 models on the market while delivering the craftsmanship the brand is known for.

Federal Court Strikes Down Illinois “Assault Weapon” Ban

Illinois mat with bullets, a magazine and a court hammer.

In a significant victory for gun rights advocates, a federal court has overturned Illinois’ ban on semi-automatic firearms and their magazines.

The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced on November 8 that Federal District Court Judge Stephen P. McGlynn ruled the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) is unconstitutional. PICA includes a ban on semi-automatic firearms and their magazines, which the court determined is “an unconstitutional affront to the Second Amendment and must be enjoined. The government may not deprive law-abiding citizens of their guaranteed right to self-defense as a means of offense.”

Even though the judge ruled PICA unconstitutional, the injunction has been stayed for 30 days, giving the state the opportunity to appeal the decision.

“We will continue to fight forward until we eliminate every unconstitutional ban like this throughout the country,” FPC President Brandon Combs said in a statement.

Motorcyclist Shoots Hammer-Weilding Driver in Road Rage Incident

Police officers and police cars at the scene

A motorcyclist has claimed self-defense in a fatal road rage incident in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

The incident occurred on November 8, when Anne Arundel County police say a 22-year-old motorcyclist and a 51-year-old motorist had an altercation while traveling in the area of Maryland Route 10 and Furnace Branch Road, according to a WBAL news article.

“The other individual — the 51-year-old — rode behind him [the motorcyclist]. He [the motorcyclist] described him as driving erratically, tailgating at one point. He pulled up beside him yelling in his direction,” Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy told WBAL.

The motorcyclist told police the other driver ran him off the road, then started coming toward him while carrying a hammer. The motorcyclist, who was licensed to conceal carry, shot the other driver in what he said was self-defense. The man died at the scene.

“He ultimately had to lay down his bike and then fire when the individual was coming in his direction with this hammer,” Mulcahy said.

The case is still active and is being investigated as an assault and homicide, according to 11 News.

Taurus Re-Introduce the Snub Nose 650 Revolver

Taurus snub nose 650 revolver

Taurus has brought back a classic with the reintroduction of the Snub Nose Taurus 650, a small-frame revolver with a reputation for reliability and compact performance. This double-action-only revolver is chambered in .357 Magnum, providing powerful stopping power in a manageable size. The re-release brings a modernized edge to this timeless firearm while keeping its core strengths intact.

Key specifications for the Taurus 650 include:

  • Caliber: .357 Magnum and .38 Special
  • Capacity: 5
  • Barrel Length: 2”
  • Overall Length: 7.6”
  • Width: 1.36”
  • Height: 4.59”
  • Weight: 22.93 oz
  • MSRP: $454.99

The Taurus 650 features a robust stainless steel construction, making it durable enough to withstand heavy use while maintaining a sleek black finish.
