LightDraw™ vs ProDraw™
Whether you are choosing a holster for your every day carry system, for taking to the range, or for around your property, picking the right holster can be a challenge. The LightDraw™ and ProDraw™ are two of our popular outside the waistband (OWB) holsters. It can be hard to decide which one is right for you so we are going to compare the features of our LightDraw™ and ProDraw™.
Both of these are OWB holsters from our collection but you can view all of our holsters including these here on our website.
For some people, the decision between these two holsters may be an easy one, but if you are new to OWB holsters, or our holsters, you may not know what the differences between them are.
We asked our customers, of these two holsters which one they prefer and why. Here are some of the responses we got.
“ProDraw. It offers me more versatile carry options.” - Herbert N.
“LightDraw for concealment. It rides high and tight against my body so it easily disappears under an overshirt.” - Donovan B.
There is not a magic answer as to which holster is right for you, since everyone has different things they look for in a holster. We wrote this comparison to help you choose which holster is going to be comfortable and meet your needs.
So, let’s get into it!
Material
Starting right off with one of the main things people consider when purchasing a holster, material. Typically holsters are made of either Kydex, Leather or a “hybrid”, meaning both. Both our LightDraw™ and ProDraw™ holsters are made of our lightweight durable .080” Kydex.
Kydex provides a sturdy shape and protects the trigger while your gun is in the holster. Its lightweight characteristic helps create all-day comfort while carrying. If you like having color options when you are purchasing a holster you are in luck. Both of these holsters are available in over 75 Kydex color options.
So, when it comes to material these two holsters both are made of our durable lightweight Kydex and come in countless color options.
Adjustability
Adjustability is important in any holster. That's why we wrote a whole blog about the “Importance of Adjustability On A Holster”. While both of these holsters are adjustable there are slight differences in the way they adjust.
If you don’t know, retention is how tight or loose you prefer your gun to sit in your holster. Both the LightDraw™ and ProDraw™ have adjustable retention, helping you feel comfortable and confident with your holster every time you use it.
Many people like to cant their holster for a more comfortable draw. Our ProDraw™ features 15° of adjustable forward and reverse cant. Whereas the LightDraw™ can be molded with a 10° forward cant or 0° cant when it is ordered.
Comfort is key and that is why both of these holsters are adjustable. They each just have slightly different adjustments when it comes to cant.
Clips
Now for the biggest difference between these two holsters. Their clips.
Our LightDraw™ is available with two different styles of clips, standard and a pancake clip. Pancake clips are designed to hold the holster closer to your body than standard clips. The holster attaches by passing your gun belt through the clips. These clip styles can be beneficial if you want to conceal carry while using this holster or just like the comfort of having your holster and gun closer to you.
The ProDraw™, on the other hand, utilizes a bill or paddle-style clip to secure your holster to your belt or the waistband of your pants. The clip is what makes this holster popular since it allows it to be relatively easy to take on and off.
Overall if you want a holster that sits close to your body for easier concealment the LightDraw™ may be for you and if you want something that is easy to take on and off the ProDraw™ could be more your style.
Other Features
There are a few other things about these two holsters we thought were worth mentioning. Both the LightDraw™ and ProDraw™ can be cut for red dot optics and are available in many of the popular gun models.
The LightDraw™ comes standard with our sweat shield and it is an optional item on the ProDraw™. The sweat shield helps keep your gun clean and sweat-free. Lastly, both of these holsters use an open front design to accommodate for extended threaded barrels and let any dirt or debris exit the holster.
There are some pretty great features with both of these holsters. Which one will you choose?
Overview
We covered a lot of information so let’s review. Both our ProDraw™ and LightDraw™ holsters are made of our durable and lightweight Kydex. The LightDraw™ has adjustable retention and can be molded with a 10° cant whereas the ProDraw™ has a 15° degree forward and reverse cant in addition to adjustable retention.
The LightDraw™ uses our standard or pancake clips which will keep your holster and gun closer to your body in comparison to the paddle design of our ProDraw™, but the paddle holster is going to be easier to take on and off.
Overall they are both very comfortable holsters with a variety of customization options. You can learn more about paddle holsters in our blog “Kydex Paddle Holster: What Is It And How Does It Work?” And if you want more information on OWB Holsters check out our blog all about them here.
